The premise
GTA 6 is set in Vice City and the state of Leonida, Rockstar’s take on Miami and Florida, which Rockstar itself calls "the darkest side of the sunniest place in America".
Per the official synopsis, Jason and Lucía have always known the deck is stacked against them. When an easy score goes wrong, they end up in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across Leonida, forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.
Two protagonists, two starting points
Jason Duval grew up around grifters, served in the Army and ended up in the Keys working for local drug runners. He lives in one of veteran smuggler Brian Heder’s properties in exchange for help with shakedowns.
Lucía Caminos is fresh out of the Leonida Penitentiary, where fighting for her family landed her. She comes out with a plan and one rule: only smart moves. Rockstar says a life with Jason could be her way out — and that, for Jason, meeting her could be the best or worst thing ever to happen to him.
The world around them
Rockstar has introduced six characters who cross their path: a bank robber hunting for talent (Raúl Bautista), a paranoid friend (Cal Hampton), an old-school smuggler (Brian Heder) and the Only Raw Records circle (Boobie Ike, Dre’Quan Priest and the duo Real Dimez). The story spans six regions, from Vice City’s hotels to the Grassrivers swamps.
What the trailers show
This is what appears in official footage; the interpretation is ours:
- Lucía in a prison uniform, in what looks like the start of her story.
- Jason and Lucía robbing a store in masks and fleeing police by car and motorcycle.
- Couple scenes at home, on a date and in the car, making clear the relationship is at the heart of the plot.
- Bigger jobs: offices, clubs and night-time shootouts.
What preview players said
Creators who played 2–3 hours at Rockstar North in September 2026 said the Jason–Lucía relationship has its own meter in the menu that grows with texts and dates and affects how well they coordinate during heists. They also mentioned store robberies without a mission and random events. All of this may change in the final game.
What we still don’t know
- What exactly the score gone wrong is, and who is behind the conspiracy.
- How long the campaign is and how many missions it has.
- Whether you can freely switch between Jason and Lucía, and how.
- How the story ends — be wary of any "leaked ending".
