What time does GTA 6 unlock? Official release time by country (November 19)
Rockstar confirmed GTA 6 unlocks at local midnight on November 19. Country-by-country table, the US PlayStation Store detail and the New Zealand trick.
IN 10 SECONDS
- GTA 6 unlocks at local midnight on November 19 in every region, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
- New Zealand plays first. The US East Coast unlocks 18 hours later.
- On the US PlayStation Store, the listing shows one nationwide unlock at midnight Eastern, which would mean 9 p.m. on Nov 18 on the West Coast.
- The New Zealand account trick means buying the game twice and breaks PlayStation's terms.
On November 3, Rockstar Support answered the question everyone was asking: Grand Theft Auto VI releases at midnight local time on November 19, 2026, in all regions, on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
There is no single global launch moment. The game unlocks region by region as midnight arrives, starting in New Zealand.
Unlock times by country
ViceScope’s calculation from the local-midnight rule confirmed by Rockstar. The “US Eastern time” column shows what time it is on the East Coast when each country starts playing.
| Country | Unlocks | US Eastern time | After NZ |
|---|---|---|---|
| New Zealand | 12:00 a.m. · Nov 19 | 6:00 a.m. · Nov 18 | First |
| United Kingdom | 12:00 a.m. · Nov 19 | 7:00 p.m. · Nov 18 | +13 h |
| Spain | 12:00 a.m. · Nov 19 | 6:00 p.m. · Nov 18 | +12 h |
| Brazil, Argentina | 12:00 a.m. · Nov 19 | 10:00 p.m. · Nov 18 | +16 h |
| US (Eastern), Colombia, Peru | 12:00 a.m. · Nov 19 | 12:00 a.m. · Nov 19 | +18 h |
| Mexico | 12:00 a.m. · Nov 19 | 1:00 a.m. · Nov 19 | +19 h |
The US detail: one nationwide unlock?
Rockstar says “midnight local time in all regions”. On PlayStation, however, the US store listing (as reported by Dexerto) shows one unlock for the whole country at midnight Eastern (05:00 UTC). If that holds, players would get the game at:
- Eastern: 12:00 a.m., Nov 19
- Central: 11:00 p.m., Nov 18
- Mountain: 10:00 p.m., Nov 18
- Pacific: 9:00 p.m., Nov 18
Both statements can be true at once if Rockstar treats the whole US store as one “region”. Rockstar has not spelled this out, and Xbox has not published a per-time-zone schedule, so treat the West Coast times as the store listing, not an official confirmation. We will update this page if that changes.
Does the New Zealand trick work?
It is unconfirmed and we don’t recommend it:
- On PS5, changing the console clock does nothing, because the countdown follows the store you bought from. You would need a new New Zealand account with a local address, New Zealand gift cards and a second copy of the game (NZD 139.95 for Standard, per Game Rant). Creating an account with false details breaks PlayStation’s terms.
- On Xbox, people suggest switching the console region, but nobody has confirmed that it works.
What actually works
- Pre-load. It starts Tuesday, November 10: at local midnight on PS5, and at midnight GMT on Xbox, which is 7:00 p.m. Eastern on Monday, November 9.
- Leave your console in rest mode and online on the night of the 18th.
- Dodge spoilers. Since New Zealand, Europe and South America play hours earlier, clips will be everywhere by the evening of the 18th. Mute “GTA 6” on social media that day.
